When we come across stories like these, we are reminded not only of the vast possibilities of CBD & Hemp use in healthcare, but also the fact that we are witnessing the birth of an entirely new era of stress relief in both humans and animals on this planet.

Remember, cannabis has only been made available for research a few years ago, so there's a lot more we need to discover over the next couple of decades.

On to our story of the day...

A zoo in Poland will begin giving its elephants medical marijuana as part of an experiment to test how it reduces their stress and anxiety levels.

After the death of a female named "Erna," the four elephants at Warsaw Zoo unfortunately became three in March. "Fredzia," a young female African elephant, became particularly distressed after Erna's passing.

But the emotional turmoil has presented an opportunity to test a new treatment for stress and anxiety in mammals.

Led by Dr. Agnieszka Czujkowska, head of the zoo's Animal Rehabilitation Department, zookeepers will test the effect of cannabidiol, also known as CBD, on the mood of the elephants.

Derived from the cannabis plant, CBD has shown to help combat depression, stress and anxiety by stimulating the production of serotonin and dopamine in the brain.

"When Erna passed away, everything changed. I don't think Fredzia was ready for such a big change," Dr. Czujkowska told reporters.

The elephants will be the first animals to be given CBD oil, as they are prone to stress more than other animals, zoo officials said.

The CBD treatment will be administered directly into the elephants' mouths or with their food.

"We are planning to give them the CBD and measure the cortisol [stress hormone] again. This is the experiment. Then we know for sure [the oil] is working or not," Dr. Czujkowska said.

Fortunately, Dr. Czujkowska expects the animals to experience no serious side effects.

"It's not very potent. The only side effect will be some behavioural changes," Dr. Czujkowska said. "We will have to manage these to achieve the results we want."

CBD products for human consumption have existed for many years in some countries, and are often used to treat anxiety, insomnia, stress and pain...

... which is exactly why we created Blumenes Organic Full-Spectrum CBD Topical Cream.

Whenever we feel stressed, anxious or can't fall asleep, we gently massage a pea-sized dollop of our cream onto our temples. Try it out!
